Asbestos Abatement
The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as well as the US Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) regulates how asbestos abatements are to be handled.
As a Georgia EPD (Environmental Protection Department) certified company, Cascade Services Company Inc. (CSC) will move forward with the abatement process safely and quickly and will include third-party verification and testing to ensure all hazardous material was removed and disposed of properly.
Abatement Process Overview
Before work can begin, Cascade Services Company Inc. will utilize a third-party resource to conduct air sampling. Back up air sampling is necessary to provide an air quality baseline for the work area before disturbing any hazardous materials. THIS IS NOT REQUIRED BUT IS SOMETIMES DONE TO SEE THE DIFFERENCE IN THE QUALITY OF AIR BEFORE AND AFTER ABATEMENT.
A regulated work area will be set up to prepare for asbestos abatement. Movable objects will be relocated, and non-movable objects will be protected with plastic sheets and duct tape. The Cascade Services project supervisor will ensure that control systems
(negative air machine, containment barriers, decontamination enclosure, lights, etc.) have been properly installed to contain and prepare for asbestos removal. Finally, Cascade Services Company Inc. abatement specialists will put on protective attire and respiration equipment to ensure their safety while working.
Cascade Services Company Inc. abatement specialists will wet down asbestos materials in order to prevent friable (easily crumbled) materials from contaminating the air. In some cases, solvents will be used to remove adhesives that may contain asbestos. Workers will utilize hand tools to ensure complete asbestos removal.
Asbestos materials will be placed in labeled, two-layer, 6-mil poly bags, closed and sealed with duct tape. All bags containing hazardous materials will then be removed and stored in a specially labeled dumpster or trailer until the end of the project.
After the asbestos material has been removed, the work site will be visually inspected by the project supervisor to ensure complete removal of hazardous materials and debris. A third party will conduct clearance air sampling to verify that the work area meets adequate air quality standards and there is no contamination.
Project Supervision
Cascade Services Company Inc. provides a certified project supervisor for every project. Our qualified project supervisors have practical experience in all facets of asbestos removal, including project planning, work practices, protection of workers, and project close-out procedures. Project supervisors are also trained in the areas of protective clothing, respirator inspection and fit testing, containment practices, and construction. of decontamination facilities and glove-bag procedures. Our project supervisors have been trained and certified per Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Competent Person requirements and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Asbestos School Hazard Abatement Reauthorization Act (ASHARA) requirements for an asbestos abatement supervisor.
